Friars Meet in Argentina for Fraternal General Assembly

This month in Pilar, Argentina – a suburb of Buenos Aires – representative friars from the Order of Friars Minor Conventual met for their Fraternal General Assembly. The Minister General of the Order, Friar Marco Tasca was also present at this gathering.

For one week, from January 11 to 18, the friars worked together to enhance the process of lifelong formation. Some people might think that formation happens only in the early stages of religious life when a man or woman opens him or herself to God’s will. This is untrue. We continue our formation every day by trying to imitate Jesus to the best of our abilities.

Friars from around the world getting to know one another

The friars at the Fraternal General Assembly in Argentina agreed that as they progress through their lifelong formation, they must always remain contemplative people. Contemplation means slowing down and thinking about our faith and relationship with God. While we are here on this planet, we must deal with the wonderful and horrific events that confront us on a daily basis. Without contemplation, these events either delight or depress us; they however never factor in the presence of God and his eternal love. When we think of God’s presence during our contemplation of life and how we approach it, we begin to feel inside our hearts that His love flows towards us constantly, enveloping us in joyful times and scary ones too.
